Pandora
(WPC-113: dp. 327; 1. 165', b. 25'3", dr. 9'6", B. 16 k., cpl. 50; a. 1 3", 2 20mm.)

Pandora, built for the Coast Guard by Manitowoc Shipbuilding Corporation, Manitowoc, Wisc., was launched 30 June 1934. She commissioned as a large cruising cutter, was assigned permanent station at Miami, Fla., and commenced patrol and rescue operations out of Miami in the summer of 1934.

The cutter was headquartered at Miami until 1939, when she transferred to Key West, Fla. With the outbreak of hostilities, Executive Order 8929 of 1 November 1941 transferred the Coast Guard to the Navy. Pandora served as a naval coastal patrol and rescue craft out of Key West through the war years. She returned to the Treasury Department 1 January 1946 and continued patrol and rescue duties in Gulf coastal waters until 1959, when she decommissioned and was sold for scrap.

Dog Overboard

I was in my cabin on board the Coast Guard Cutter Calypso (WPC-104) at 0400 one morning in January 1942, studying plots of German submarine positions prior to sailing with a convoy out of New York. Our ship’s cook knocked on the door and entered with a bundle under his arm. Out of the bundle appeared two big brown eyes and a pink nose—a puppy.

“At the Owl Bar. He was hungry. Can he go with us?”

We sailed before dawn, 66 ships in the convoy and the convoy escorts. Coast Guard cutters Nike (WPC-112), Nemesis (WPC-111), Pandora (WPC- 113), Calypso, and the USS Plymouth (PG-57), escort commander.

Several days out at sea in the submarine attack zone, with about a State 6 sea running, a shout came up to me on the bridge—Man Overboard!

“All ahead full—left full rudder.”


General Aviation PJ-1

General Aviation FLB began in 1930 as Fokker model F. 15, designed according to the requirement of the u.s. coast guard twin-engine aircraft for rescue tasks on the open sea, and its author was proven by Alfred And. Gassner. The foundation became the previous Fokker seaplane, F.11-A, however, increased by about 15 % and with improved aerodynamics. Unlike F.11-And also it wasn't about amfibii. The hull was largely of anodized aluminum and alcladu, with the front part with the rigid structure divided in several watertight bulkheads and the rear of from the "step" the ship-borne dna to rewind on the contrary, a light shell. Wing then were still based on the fokkerovské classics and had a wooden skeleton covered with plywood. The skeleton of the tail surfaces and engine nacelles were made from welded steel tubes, the nacelles should be in front of the oil tank and in the rear part of the engines of the Wasp in a compression arrangement of the covered ring. Coast guard to examine the several proposals from several manufacturers and eventually chose the F.15 (also AF.15 or GA.15). The first of the machines that were given the label just FLB (FLying Lifeboat, the flying lifeboat), was completed sometime at the end of the year 1931 and was adopted by the USCG in January 1932 as FLB-8. The remaining four specimens followed during the year of 1932. In the service got all the machines own name - FLB-51 (originally erroneously FLB-8) was Antares, FLB-52 Altair, FLB-53 Acrux, FLB-54 Acamar, and FLB-55 Arcturus. The three machines were placed into service at the base of the USCG in Cape May, New Jersey, the other two in Miami, Florida. In 1933, he was FLB-51 sent to the Naval air factory in Philadelphia, where he received new engines Pratt & Whitney R-1690 Hornet about 373 kW at the tight rings of the type NACA, this time facing forward. Although he was in this form FLB-51 faster about 24 km/h and raised and range, finally there was no more adapted.

In 1934 they were FLB renamed - General Aviation Corp. was meanwhile merged with the parent General Aviation Manufacturing Corp. and then with North American Aviation, and from the General Aviation FLB have become a General Aviation (or North American) PJ-1. Pandora WPC-113 - History

MODE identifies precipitation objects in both the forecast and observed fields at a number of different thresholds. It then uses a variety of object characteristics (ex: distance between objects, size of objects, angle of orientation, etc.) to determine the degree of similarity between objects in the forecast and observed fields. Objects that are found to be similar to one another are considered “matched”, while those that are not similar are considered “unmatched”. Unmatched objects in the forecast field are equivalent to a false alarm. Unmatched objects in the observed field are equivalent to a miss. Examples of the graphical verification output produced by MODE are below. Matched objects are indicated in the same color in both the forecast and the observed fields. In this case, the red, green, and light blue objects are matched with one another. Unmatched objects are always displayed in dark blue.

In addition to the graphical output, MODE also provides statistical information for each matched object. This information includes a parameter called the interest value, which is an overall measure of similarity between objects in the forecast and observed fields. The interest value ranges from 0 to 1, with a value of 0.70 required for objects to be considered matched. In addition to the interest value, MODE also provides information about the displacement distance, which is defined as the distance between the center of a forecast object and the center of the corresponding observed object.

Pandora Trading Update for April 2021

Pandora today releases a trading update for April 2021 as announced in the Q1 2021 Interim Financial Report. The trading update is, as the previous trading updates this year, released as a press release, and not a company announcement, per instructions from NASDAQ Copenhagen. Pandora has previously communicated that the company would, when relevant, release extraordinary trading updates due to the elevated uncertainty related to COVID-19. Pandora intents to cease issuing monthly trading updates when the percentage of temporarily closed stores reaches 15% or below. On average, around 25% of physical stores were temporarily closed due to COVID-19 in the month of April with around 20% of stores remaining closed today. Carbon copy? Pandora takes a shine to lab-made diamonds

Pandora, the jewellery maker best know for its silver charm bracelets, will stop selling mined diamonds and focus on more affordable, sustainable, lab-grown gems, it said on Tuesday. "Diamonds are not only forever, but for everyone," Pandora Chief Executive Alexander Lacik said as the Danish company launched a new collection of man-made stones. Pandora, which made 85 million pieces of jewellery last year and sold 50,000 diamonds, said it aimed to "transform the market for diamond jewellery with affordable, sustainably created products".

Pandora Launches DKK 500 Million Share Buyback Programme

The Board of Directors of Pandora has decided to launch a share buyback programme, under which Pandora will buy back own shares of a maximum consideration of DKK 500 million in the period from 5 May 2021 to 13 August 2021 at the latest, both days inclusive. The purpose of the programme is to reduce the Company´s share capital and to meet obligations arising from company incentive programmes. The share buyback programme is implemented in accordance with the safe harbour rules in Regulation (EU) No 596/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 April 2014 (market abuse regulation). Pandora has appointed Danske Bank as lead manager of the programme. Pandora Upgrades Financial Guidance for 2021

Based on a strong start to 2021 and the updated forecast for the rest of the year, Pandora upgrades its financial guidance for 2021. Organic growth is increased to “Above 12%”, from “Above 8%”, and EBIT margin is increased to “Above 22%”, from “Above 21%”. The updated guidance is based on the assumption that 20-25% of the stores will be temporarily closed due to COVID-19 during the first half of 2021 and 5-10% in the second half. Previously, the expectation was 25% temporary stores closures in the first half of 2021. This is expected to impact organic growth negatively by around -6% for the full year. Today, around 20% of Pandora’s stores are temporarily closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. CAPEX for the year is still expected to be in the range between DKK 1.0-1.2 billion and no major changes to the overall concept store network are expected. The effective tax rate is expected to be 22-23%, in line with 2020. Pandora is currently in silent period and will, as planned, announce the detailed financial results in the Q1 2021 Interim Report on 4 May 2021.
