Yamashira from the left

Here we see the Fuso class battleship Yamashiro after the mid 1930s reconstruction that gave them the distinctive pagoda foremasts. The Yamashira can be identified by the shape of the back of the pagoda, which was straighter than on her sister ship Fuso. Both ships were sunk on 25 October 1944 during the battle of the Surigao Strait, part of the wider battle of Leyte Gulf.
